Radial Vortex Painting I

Geometry that enters through the eye and cannot leave.

The Radial Vortex is not a picture that is hung up and forgotten. It is a radial structure of 266 paper modules that challenges two-dimensionality through repetition and extreme precision. The gradient from cobalt blue to electric magenta was planned module by module before the first one was folded.

Each piece takes 6 hours to make. That's not an exaggeration.

The process

266 asymmetrical trapezoidal modules, individually folded and precisely joined. The structure is achieved by the tension between pieces. Hard light photography activates radial shadows that extend the piece beyond its frame.
